Guide

Run OpenAI Codex on Android

Yes. Keva is an Android app that bundles a complete OpenAI Codex runtime (Codex 0.159.2), so the agent runs on the phone itself, with no root, no computer and no cloud desktop. Your files stay on the device, and conversations go only to the model provider you choose.

What you need

  • An Android phone with a 64-bit (arm64) processor, running Android 8.0 or newer.
  • About 4–5 GB of available storage after install for the bundled runtime, plus the 864 MB APK.
  • A ChatGPT subscription or an OpenAI API key.

How to get started

  1. Download the APK from keva.chat/download and check its SHA-256 checksum against the value published on that page.
  2. Allow installs from your browser. If Google Play Protect shows “Unsafe app blocked”, tap “Install anyway”. On some phones, tap “More details” first.
  3. Open Keva and add your key.
  4. Choose OpenAI Codex as your runtime, then sign in with a ChatGPT subscription or add an OpenAI API key.

What it can do

  • Read and write files on the phone's own storage.
  • Write code, run commands and use tools.
  • Search the web and manage Git repositories locally.
  • Research a topic and deliver an HTML report on the phone. Keva's public demo has Codex research a week of AI developments and deliver an HTML industry report.
  • Cut, mix, subtitle and transcode audio and video with the bundled ffmpeg and ffprobe, and encode H.264 with the phone's own hardware video encoder.
  • Switch between Codex and Claude Code, and the conversation context is kept.

Price

Every device gets a 7-day full-featured trial. After that, a one-time license covers two active devices: the founder price is US$19.90 for the first 100 completed purchases, and the standard price is US$39.90. There is no subscription and no renewal. Purchases are processed through Paddle Checkout. Model-provider usage is billed separately by the provider you choose.

Common questions

Does Codex on Keva need root or a computer?+
No. Keva runs as a normal Android app on stock devices. It does not need root or a separate computer.
Which accounts can Codex use?+
Codex can use a ChatGPT subscription or an OpenAI API key.
Where does my data go?+
Your files, project data and keys stay on your device. Messages are sent to the model provider you choose. The app does not run analytics; it uses a minimal anonymous version check to deliver required updates.
Is the Google Play Protect “Unsafe app blocked” warning a problem?+
No. It is the expected warning for any app that runs a full Linux runtime on the phone. Always download from keva.chat and verify the SHA-256 published on the download page.
